I saw Gatemouth a few times at Buddy Guy's Legends. As you know, the North Side blues clubs, and especially that one, are pretty touristy, with the audience not really caring who's on stage as long as they get to hear anything the Blues Brothers did. And Gatemouth was always very cool about it. He'd run through "Mojo," "Sweet Home Chicago," all the songs he never really focused on much during his long career, do them his own way, in the first set, so the tourists could go home happy. And the second set, he knew they'd leave and his fans would stick around, and we always got the goods. One night he just didn't want to stop, ran a little long, and the club looked the other way; it was already 2:15, I was barely able to stay in my chair I was so sleepy, and still I couldn't leave until he'd left the stage.
