Purple Heartbreakers

James Webb gets it exactly right: A young American now serving in Iraq might rightly wonder whether his or her service will be deliberately misconstrued 20 years from now, in the next rendition of politically motivated spinmeisters who never had the courage to step forward and put their own lives on the line. Support the troops, they all cry. But let those troops come home and register & run as a democrat, or speak out against the war, and right wing respect for service gets tossed out like the cheap piece of costume jewelry it always was.

Is the right wing that evil on the personal level?

Is listening to Rush tearing your belief in other people?

When we talk in generalizations, yes, it is easy to box whole groups of people.

On the personal level, I don't believe that narrow-minded politics = narrow people.

Of course, I could be wrong.

The only other Democrat on my block (white, suburban and Nascar loving, to be sure) hired a hitman to (unsuccessfully, thank goodness) kill his wife and is now on the lam. Is it wrong that I hope he comes out of hiding to vote? Am I evil on two personal levels?
